Kids Company Whistleblower Claims £10,000 Stolen

The now defunct charity Kids Company has experienced further problems this week as an unidentified whistleblower is now claiming that over £10,000 of the charity’s money mysteriously vanished from the Urban Academy centre branch in Southwark during spring 2012, and that nothing was done to locate it. This money was believed to have been financed by a mixture of public funding and private donations.

The whistleblower spoke with the Daily Telegraph to explain that despite the police being called to investigate the £10,000 disappearance, nobody was ever charged with any wrongdoing.
He also says that employees working for the Urban Academy centre had their suspicions over the actions of an individual considered to be one of Kids Company’s most ‘favoured clients’; an individual proven to have been present at the Southwark office on the day the money went missing.

The whistleblower explains: “I don’t know whether any effort was made to inform the police just how much Kids Company actually knew, but everyone knew it was him and nothing came of it”
The unknown whistleblower, who is said to be a physiotherapist for the charity, has stated that the ‘stolen’ money is just one part of the larger degree of ‘chaos’ surrounding the charity’s management by founder Camila Batmanghelidjh. The company is facing a string of allegations ranging from misspent donations to claims of child abuse, exploitation and sexual offences.

Ms Batmanghelidjh’s image as a leading figure in UK child care has been tarnished considerably since Kids Company collapsed amid revelations that she met with leading Tory party donor James Lupton to secure funds to keep the charity afloat. Lupton denies that he was part of a decision to ignore the advice of civil servants and provide the charity with £3 million just one week before it folded on August 5th.

Ms Batmanghelidjh has received criticism insinuating that she is part of a larger scale of corrupt actions that led to her charity’s collapse, a result she is blaming on “rumour-mongering civil servants, ill-spirited ministers and the media” who are making her a scapegoat.

Kids Company has not yet issued a statement in response to the claims of missing money by the unidentified whistleblower.
